General

Can I use your music in my videos?

For personal, non-commercial projects such as home videos, school assignments and hobby projects, yes. It is free, with no payment, no credit and no license needed. If your use is Commercial Use (see below), you need a Commercial Use License. See pricing.

What counts as Commercial Use?

Any of the following, whether or not it earns revenue:

  • Monetizing your content in any way (platform ad revenue, sponsorships, paid memberships, sales).
  • Use by or for a company, organization or brand: videos on a company or organization channel, corporate, recruitment, promotional or product videos, sponsored content, and client work.
  • Advertising.
Do I need to credit RightsFreeSound?

No. Credit is never required, for any use, free or licensed. It is appreciated if you would like to include one, but it has no effect on your license status either way.

Can I use your music on social media (Instagram, TikTok, X, etc.)?

For personal, non-commercial posts, yes, freely. If the content is monetized, or is posted by or for a company, organization or brand, a Commercial Use License is required.

Can I use your music at film festivals or in competitions?

For personal, non-commercial entries, yes, freely. If the work is a commercial production, or you are entering on behalf of a company, organization or brand, a Commercial Use License is required. Film productions and TV or radio broadcast are not covered by our standard licenses (see Advertising & Broadcast).

What’s the difference between a Single Track License and a Subscription?

A Single Track License follows a "one license = one project" model, perfect for a single production where you need a permanent Commercial Use License for one specific video. A Subscription is built for active creators: as long as you are subscribed, you can redeem your monthly credits across our entire catalog for an unlimited number of videos over time. It is the more cost-effective option if you publish regularly. See pricing to compare both.

Games, Apps & Podcasts

Can I use your music in a video game or app?

This always requires a Single Track License (a Commercial Use License), regardless of whether the game or app is monetized. These platforms do not support the automatic detection we use on video platforms, so a license must be obtained in advance.

Can I use your music in a podcast?

This always requires a Single Track License (a Commercial Use License), regardless of monetization, for the same reason as above.

Advertising & Broadcast

Can I use your music in advertising?

Advertising is Commercial Use. For standard digital advertising, a Single Track License or Subscription covers it. See pricing. For national or international ad campaigns, this is not covered by our standard licenses; please contact us for a custom quote.

Can I use your music in a film, TV show, or radio broadcast?

This is not covered by our standard Single Track License or Subscription. Please contact us for a custom license.

YouTube & Content ID

Can I monetize my YouTube videos using your music?

Yes, with a Commercial Use License (a Single Track License or an active Subscription) covering that track. Without one, the ad revenue goes to RightsFreeSound instead of you. Your video stays online.

Does this apply to YouTube Shorts too?

Yes. Shorts follow the same rules as regular videos. There is no separate exception for short-form content.

I got a Content ID claim on my video. What should I do?

A claim is not a strike, and it will not remove your video or restrict your channel. It means ad revenue from that video is currently going to RightsFreeSound.

  • Personal, non-commercial use: no action is needed. You can leave the claim as it is.
  • Monetized or business use: this use needs a Commercial Use License. Get one for the track, then remove the claim (see the next question).
How do I remove a Content ID claim?

First, get a Commercial Use License for the track.

  • Single Track License: submit the claimed video under "Remove Claim" in My Account.
  • Subscription: register your YouTube channel URL under "My Channel" in My Account. Your channel is then added to RightsFreeSound’s Content ID whitelist.
My channel is not monetized yet. Do I need a license?
  • Personal, non-commercial use: no. You can use the music freely. A claim can still appear, and YouTube may show ads on the claimed video. Any ad revenue from those ads goes to RightsFreeSound.
  • Business use: yes. Use by or for a company, organization or brand requires a Commercial Use License even if the channel is not monetized.
Ads are showing on my video even though I did not monetize it. Why?

When a Content ID claim is placed, YouTube can show ads on the video even if your channel is not monetized. That revenue goes to RightsFreeSound. With a Commercial Use License, you can have the claim removed (see "How do I remove a Content ID claim?").

I make videos for a client. Which license do I need?

Client work is Commercial Use, so a Commercial Use License is required for the client’s project, whether or not the video is monetized.

Subscription

How does the Subscription work?

Each billing cycle, you get a set number of license credits to redeem on tracks in our catalog. See pricing for the current price and credit count.

What happens to my licensed tracks if I cancel my Subscription?

Tracks you have already licensed with a credit stay licensed for that project forever, even after you cancel. You just will not be able to redeem new credits or license additional tracks without an active Subscription.

Do unused credits roll over to the next month?

Yes. Unused credits carry over with no expiration, for as long as your subscription stays active.
